Do you live in La Grange, Texas and need a tooth extraction?
Tooth decay, broken teeth and gum disease are all reasons that a tooth may need extraction. Tooth extraction is necessary when a tooth, or multiple teeth, become decayed enough or abscessed to the point where no other treatment will be able to cure the infection. If you are in a situation where a tooth or many teeth need extraction, it is best to contact an experienced oral surgeon as quickly as possible. The longer you keep the infected tooth in place, the more pain or discomfort you may endure. Removing the infected tooth or teeth can also help keep the infection from spreading to other areas of the mouth.
You will be put under anesthesia for this procedure and the area near the tooth that is to be removed will be numbed. This will ensure that you are comfortable and are able to sleep soundly through the entire procedure. The strength of the anesthesia will depend on how many teeth need to be removed. You may need to make sure that you have a ride home to and from the procedure. After you are unconscious, the surgeon will begin the procedure to remove your tooth/teeth. The removal site may need to be stitched closed after the infected tooth is removed. It is not uncommon to experience pain, discomfort and light bleeding after the procedure. Pain can be managed by prescribed medication or over-the-counter medication. If you do experience light bleeding, this can be managed by gently biting down on a piece of gauze. After you have fully recovered from this procedure, your oral surgeon can proceed with replacing your missing teeth with one of the artificial tooth options (dentures, dental implants, bridges).
