Georgetown Tooth Extraction

Do you live in Georgetown, Texas and need a tooth extraction?

If a tooth is extremely decayed or has been broken, it may need to be removed. Another cause that can lead to tooth extraction is gum disease. The infection makes the gums around a tooth more loose and the infection may also spread to the tooth itself. Tooth extraction is necessary when a tooth, or several teeth, become so decayed or abscessed that no other treatment could possible help cure the infection. If you are in need of a tooth extraction, you should contact an experienced oral surgeon as soon as possible. Removing the infected tooth, or teeth, will guard your mouth from the infection spreading to other areas.

The Procedure

Your oral surgeon will administer anesthesia to numb the area in which the tooth is to be removed, before the procedure begins. Doing so will make you more comfortable during the procedure and let you sleep through the entire procedure. The strength of the administered anesthetic will depend on how many teeth need removal. After you are no longer conscious, the oral surgeon will begin the procedure and your infected tooth/teeth will be removed. The removal site may require stitches. It is not uncommon for a patient to experience slight pain, discomfort and light bleeding for a few days following the procedure. If you discover that your removal sites are bleeding, simply bite down gently on a piece of gauze. After you have recovered, your tooth can be replaced. There are a few methods, including dental implants, bridges and dentures, for you to choose from. Your oral surgeon will help you decide which is the best option for you.
