Do You Need Sedation Dental Surgery in Marble Falls, Texas?
Surgery in general can be painful and scary. This is also true for dental procedures. If you are in need of a dental procedure, you may need sedation. Dental surgery requiring sedation is meant to keep you comfortable and lessen the pain associated with a procedure. If you are in need of such a surgery, you might need to plan ahead and find someone to drop you off and pick you up from the procedure, because some methods of sedation do not leave your system quickly enough to allow driving after a procedure. It is a good idea to find out what sedation methods are used for each procedure and whether or not driving will be possible after the surgery. Sedation is beneficial to a patient because you will experience less pain and discomfort as well as reduced anxiety.
The Austin Oral Surgery Sedation Methods
At Austin Oral Surgery, we offer four methods of sedation, two of which are administered through an IV.
Without An IV
Nitrous Oxide is the first method of sedation that Austin Oral Surgery offers. Nitrous Oxide is the only sedation method that we offer that does not require you to have another person pick you up from the procedure. The sedation method leaves your system quickly enough to make this possible.
Oral sedation is the second type of sedation method that we offer. This sedation method reduces anxiety and increases comfort for a patient. However, unlike nitrous oxide, you will not be able to drive after your procedure if oral sedation was administered. This method takes much longer to leave your system than nitrous oxide.
With An IV
Moderate sedation is the first sedation method that we offer that is administered through an IV. This method requires for the patient to fast for eight hours before the procedure. The patient will be unconscious for the majority of a procedure that uses this sedation method, but not for the entire time. This method of sedation also require that you plan out your means of transportation for after the surgery. Driving after the use of moderate sedation is not allowed.
Deep sedation is also a sedation method, that we offer, that requires the use of an IV. A patient, that deep sedation is used, will be unconscious for the entire procedure. Just like moderate sedation, the patient must not eat anything for eight hours prior to the surgery and driving after the surgery is not recommended. Therefore, you need to plan for another person to be there for your departure.
